Women gravitate toward jobs with fewer risks, more comfortable conditions, regular hours, more personal fulfillment and greater flexibility. Simply put, many women—not all, but enough to have a big impact on the statistics—are willing to trade higher pay for other desirable job characteristics.

Fewer risks, regular hours and greater flexibility — hmm, sounds like some of these women are mothers, perhaps? Imagine that.

And shame on all the women who want comfortable conditions and personal fulfillment from their jobs. How dare they?

My guess would be that women aren’t so much sacrificing higher pay for better job characteristics, but are low-balled when they ask for or seek out better job characteristics and are left with little choice when they are faced with having to balance home life with work life.
